A Special Thank You To Our Board of Directors
Greetings from sunny Puerto Rico! It’s Owen here, Co-Director of Plenitud PR, and I’m thinking of the Plenitud PR community members from all over and sending you much love from our hearts to yours.
It’s a busy time of the year on the farm. Between building projects, Amo Mis Abus food distribution, delivering art and garden kits to local school children and so much more, we are all really engaged in service here on the ground in Las Marías!
Now more than ever, I want to take some time to recognize a deeply important part of what makes Plenitud PR thrive: our Board of Directors.
A little background: we came to Puerto Rico in 2008 with almost nothing but a dream and a desire to be of service to our community. Plenitud PR was officially launched in 2009, and a couple of years later we started the process of incorporating as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, with help from friends and colleagues who volunteered their time and energy to support us. It became clear that we would need a Board of Directors under this setup, and a few trusted friends and colleagues were perfect fits to help fill those roles.
We never could have dreamed how this would change!
Boy, those early years were funny! We didn’t know how to take meeting minutes, how to vote on measures, or the roles of each Member. We held meetings mostly to check certain requirements off of our list, but that was the extent of Board involvement in our day-to-day activity. We never could have dreamed how this would change!
As Plenitud PR continued to grow, more people were inspired to serve with us in a committed way, even from afar. The Board was a great opportunity to engage these passionate individuals, and through the power of strong relationships and a real belief in our mission, it evolved into a solid group of trusted advisors and Plenitud PR partners. It has been so cool to watch!
For the last five years especially, we have seen this group of talented individuals take Board meetings to the next level, consulting on short- and long-term projects, helping us envision the next several years’ worth of programs, advising us on grants and finances, and so much more. Many of our Members also volunteer for Plenitud PR full-time: they serve on committees, organize and implement fundraisers, and engage with the community as ambassadors. They raise the bar in terms of organizational professionalism.
These leaders truly go above and beyond to serve Plenitud PR, and we are so grateful for everything they do.
Plenitud PR has come so far as an organization, largely in part to our committed and truly caring Board members. And we’re not stopping there; we have big plans for Plenitud PR in the coming years, and we know that they will be right there with us, helping us serve our community and execute our mission. As Plenitud PR continues to grow in the coming years, we are confident that the Board will just expand and grow with us, and that we will recruit even more talented professionals and local community leaders to our Board and advisory committees.
So, to our amazing Board of Directors: Paula and I want to say a heartfelt thank you for all you do--for us, for our team on the ground, and for the larger Plenitud PR community. None of this would be possible without your service, and we are humbled and grateful to have you in our corner.
